The focus of Nonna's work is the exploration of the concept of entropy and ways of representing the balancing point, as one of the most characteristic features of our time. The concept of entropy is also used as a new way to study the social and ecological problems faced by the world today. Things that she tries to represent are: Music, Energies, Visible, Invisible, Harmony, Limitation, Entropy, Dissipation, Uncertainty, Anxiety, Movement without beginning and end, Stillness, Balancing Point between reality, imagination and representation.

Vlad Sokhin Photo Exhibition: Crying Meri : Violence Against Women in Papua New Guinea email to a friend

Since the beginning of 2012 photographer Vlad Sokhin has been documenting violence against women in Papua New Guinea, Australia’s closest neighbouring country.

According to the statistics, in Papua New Guinea two thirds of women are constantly exposed to domestic violence and about 50% of women become victims of sexual assaults (in Chimbu and Western Highlands provinces, 97% and 100% of women surveyed, respectively, said they had been assaulted). Local men do not respect their meri (“women” in PNG Pidgin), constantly beating them, often using bush knives and axes. It is very rare that violence-against-women cases are brought to court.

Vlad Sokhin is a Sydney based Russian/Portuguese documentary photographer. Vlad's work has been exhibited and screened in the United States, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Portugal, Georgia, Fiji and Turkey. He has received various awards and his work has been published in international newspapers and magazines, including National Geographic, GEO, International Herald Tribune, Marie Claire, Das Magazin, The Age, Global Mail, The Weekend Australian and others.   www.vladsokhin.com

20 Years of Lomography email to a friend

Lomography began with a fateful encounter in the early 1990s when a group of students stumbled upon the Lomo Kompakt Automat – a small, enigmatic Russian camera. What started as a small community of passionate friends soon became an incredible analogue movement with over 1 million community members and the biggest analogue camera producer worldwide. The more than 150 creative cameras models launched in the last 20 years have seduced millions of people with their unique film qualities! In celebration of the past 2 decades, we’ve put together an exhibition of photographic gems and the cameras that helped make them! http://www.lomography.com.au
